Order of Foreign Wars of the United States
The New York Commandery is the original organization from which the national order developed as successive state commanderies
were chartered. Commanderies have been chartered in a majority of states as well as in the District of Columbia, territories
and overseas. The New York Commandery is the senior commandery of the Order. The Order is made up of veteran officers and
descendants of officers of America's foreign wars, beginning with the War of Independence and continuing to the present.
